Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic is a two part Trade Paper Back. The first story is “Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon”. That’s the one I’m talking about in this post.
The first thing that comes to mind with this story is how often they mention Freedon Nadd. Obviously, they must be setting the stage for the Tales of the Jedi story about him (one that I’ll be reading soon, called The Freedon Nadd Uprising). Anyway, this was a good story from the Oderon System about a Ulic Qel-Droma, a Jedi that is training under Master Arca. It’s Ulic’s chance to prove himself when he and his brother Cay and Tott Doneeta travel to Onderon to be watchmen for the Onderon System.
The story about how the flying beasts of a nearby moon, Dxun, traveled to Onderon and then how the civilation of the beast lords came about was definitely cool and interesting. This was another fun book and I’m looking forward to the next story in this book: “The Saga of Nomi Sunrider”.

The Fall of the Sith Empire got a little more exciting than part one, The Golden Age of the Sith, but was still fairly predictable. Several main characters were killed, even a suprise or two, so that was good, not too cookie-cutter.
I liked seeing more of Master Ooroo in this one. Also got to see more of a ruthless merchant lord named Ssk Kahorr. He’s one bad dude who you don’t want to cross.
There was the continuing power struggle between Sith Lords, but one comes out victorious (sort of).
One thing that was really cool was you get to see the first appearance (in chronological order, not in published order) of the Yavin system and it’s fourth Moon. I added to it’s Wikia page this appearance of the Yavin system.
Chronologically is the first appearance of a holocron, which I had no idea what that was until I looked it up on Wikia. And I had to also add it to the appearances section of it’s Wikia page.
One more big part of this book was the alliance of the Kirrek rebels with Empress Teta’s military force, after resisting them in Golden Age.
Known as Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wikia site is where I get background information while reading these books.
Next book, Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Replublic.

I read the Tales of the Jedi – Golden Age of the Sith TPB last night. Not too bad at all. I know a lot of people on Amazon really bashed this book, but I, as a new inductee into Star Wars fanaticism, found it a decent read.
That being said, I didn’t really empathize with any of the characters. The two that are supposed to be the heroes, Gav and Jori Daragon, acted like selfish immature whiners. Hopefully I’ll find them more interesting in the next book. One character I did kind of like was Odan-Urr, a Jedi training under Master Ooroo, who I also liked but only had a short appearance. Odan-Urr kind of acted like a wimp, though. Not what I would have expected from a future Jedi Master. Also, I have to agree with one of the reviews on Amazon – the artist seemed to have a hard time drawing Odan-Urr.
I did appreciate getting the background of the Sith and learning of the uniting of The Republic under Empress Teta.
Of course, it was cool to get some history about one of Jabba the Hutt’s ancestors, Aarrba the Hutt.
Ok, on to the finish of this entertaining if a little predictable story, in Tales of the Jedi – The Fall of the Sith Empire.

I have decided to get a better idea of the history of the Star Wars universe to make watching the movies and upcoming animated Star Wars flicks more enjoyable. To that end, I searched Amazon for a good list of the Star Wars books in chronological order. I found this list from a user named Abs Hawkins. This is one of eight lists he created for the Star Wars saga.
This list starts in 5000 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) or 5000 years before Luke Skywalker destroyed the DeathStar. I will read each book from the list as quickly as I can, and keep a journal of my ‘adventure’, starting with The Golden Age of the Sith.
Well, here goes, and I hope The Force is with me…..
